We all know that New Year resolutions don't stick past the first couple of weeks of January. In 2017 I committed to exercising at 3-4 times per week, especially so I could get the gym reimbursement from my health insurance company. I did great in January and February and that was it - until I discovered my neighbor went to the same gym. Since I asked her if we could go together, I'm at the gym 2-3 times per week at 5:45am even when freezing outside.
Similarly, if you want to land in a new role faster in 2018, you need to take action on your job search daily. Doesn't matter if it's only for 15 minutes a day. Problem is most people I talk to are not even doing that. So time passes and you get discouraged because you are unable to get that desired new job and you do even less. It becomes an unfulfilling vicious cycle.
The solution is to get a job search buddy. Someone who is also looking for a new job who you can check in with daily. Ideally, you'd get together for an hour to work on your search. But if not possible, at least you could call each other at a regular time to confirm you will start working on your search right away for the next 15 minutes.
